I’ve checked the press releases produced by the Scottish Lib Dems this month: I’ve got 99 listed in my RSS feed reader from 9th December to date. The vast majority of them are what I consider to be negative stories in that they tend to complain about something. Only 19 are “good news” type stories.
In talking to ordinary voters they’re fed up with the constant negativity and bickering practiced by our elected representatives. They don’t want to hear stories where the various political parties are blaming each other for not doing something. They would much rather know what the party doing the complaining is proposing to do instead.
So, what I want to see in the New Year is a different approach being taken to Scottish Lib Dem Press Releases. Instead of just “attacking” our opponents (which includes the Scottish Executive), these releases must also indicate what we propose to do to resolve the situation as well.
Only by putting over more positive messages thus, creating a positive image, will we stand any chance of success at the Holyrood elections in May 2011. People want to hear what we propose to do.
More positive stories please
