Because they are too intent on getting to their destination and ignore ‘no entry’ and ‘one way’ signs!
Over the recent months I’ve noticed an increasing number of vehicles (not all ‘white vans’) driving (or parked facing) the wrong way in North Berwick’s one way streets. In most cases they’ve ignored either the ‘no entry’ signs or the ‘one way’ signs on lamp posts at junctions. Some of the junctions don’t have ‘no entry’ signs, just the ‘one way’ sign directly opposite the ‘give way’ line. Fortunately I haven’t seen any accidents but its only a matter of time.
I have stopped several vehicles to point out they are going the wrong way where the driver stated they “didn’t see the signage”. And I feel I should have a supply of stickers to put on parked vehicles that have driven the wrong way before parking. But what could East Lothian Council do about this?
They could increase the size of every sign to help make it more obvious, and put up more signs but perhaps a more practical (helpful?) solution is to paint direction signs on the roadway at every junction and paint them every 50 feet or so along each road to point vehicles in the right direction.
What do you think?
