Is the decorating finished yet?

For those of you who haven’t noticed my absence from the blogosphere – well done! For those of you that have, I’m back as the decorating has been completed.

Some months back I agreed with my dad that it was about time I re-decorated, the living room for example hasn’t been touched in 18 years. We were supposed to start last September but for one reason or another never got round to it. However, we agreed to get the paint in the new year and that’s exactly what we did.

The only rooms left untouched were the bedroom (done 2 years ago) and the box room (the thought of trying to empty that was just too much and we left well alone). So, just over 3 weeks ago we settled down to do the bathroom and hall in 1 week. And yes they were done in 1 week. The bathroom now has a ceiling done in Royal Blue gloss, the walls in Mineral Mist matt and the woodwork in Sea Storm matt. (And no, I’m not uploading photos, use your imagination). The hall – which had been papered has now had these painted over. The top half in Totally Nutmeg and the bottom in Muddy Puddle (both matt). All the doors which were yellow are now Coffee Liqueur. Yes, they are all sort of brownish but, it works.

Week 2 was the kitchen and doing the hall doors. The recess area where the kitchen table is was papered in a dark paper and the rest of the walls where white. That has changed completely. Half of the walls (recess and fireplace) are now Soft Stone and the rest Tuscan Terracotta. The wall kitchen cabinets have been done in True Tuscan (gloss) to match the wall. It lightens up the recess but makes the rest of the room a bit darker, but more cosy.

Finally. last week was the living room (and touching up elsewhere). The ceiling and frieze have been done in plain old white (including the cornice) and the walls that were papered have now had a top-coat of Barley White. You can still see the patterns on the wallpaper showing through. The external front door has now been done in Jade.

All in all, 3 weeks of work, flat transformed, and I’m still finding stuff to put back. It’s taking time as I’m sorting through it and discarding a lot.
