Dinghy Park no more

Boats at North Berwick harbour have been severely damaged in yesterday’s high winds and rain.

All the dinghies in they dinghy park are all now more or less matchwood. Only a few have survived. A neighbour has told me her “little thing” was completely destroyed.

Those that may be salvageable have been put on Anchor Green awaiting inspection.

Last Saturday was the first of the twice-yearly boat moving when a large crane arrived to lift boats into the water for the summer season. These boats anchor just outside the harbour entrance. There is none there now!

The strength of the sea was that strong it lifted boulders over the harbour wall.

The Scottish Seabird Centre suffered some damage too. There are a couple of places where rocks have been gouged out from the structure of the building on the footpath leading down to the harbour area.

The boats in the actual harbour itself appear to be undamaged. It is expected there will be huge damage claims on insurance. The dinghy park normally holds about 40 boats. Anchored just outside the harbour are normally 5 to 6 larger boats.
