My mobile phone contact with 3 expires tomorrow. I tried looking at their website to see what renewal and/or upgrade offers they had but that part of the site is “down” while they develop it. So I went to one of their retail outlets instead.
The assistant I dealt with was very helpful. There were a couple of new phones he could offer especially as I was willing to increase my monthly bill a little. However, when he checked, it was discovered that upgrading my contract for either new phone was going to be more expensive than cancelling and registering as a new customer.
“I don’t know why we do this”, he said. “We can only offer existing customers a worse deal. It’s wrong!”. Too right it is. If mobile phone companies want to get and maintain the loyalty of their customers they should offer them better deals than are given to new customers.
So I’ve got a new phone, have a new contract, that starts in a months time after the 30 days cancellation notice on my current contract but, with a new number.
