#fracking – potential changes to Scottish Planning Policy

The Scottish Parliament have proposed changes to their national planning policy framework that will make it more difficult for companies interested in unconventional gas extraction (or fracking).

It should be noted this is only a draft proposal and needs to be confirmed at a future date. The change applies to planning policy but, it may not, on its own, change how companies go about this business.

The one main question I’ve had about this process, which no-one has answered whenever I’ve asked is, “where is the water coming from?” Water is injected into the ground as part of this process. Will the water come from the sea? rivers? lochs? the tap? Or will it come to the site via water bowsers. If so, how many per day? and where do the get filled up?
