For an Administration that claims to be supporting renewable energy they’re certainly going the wrong way about it. The Home Renewables Grant aimed at encouraging home owners to fit things like solar panels to their roofs is to be scrapped when the current budget is scrapped at the end of the month.
It was only offering a maximum grant of up to £4,000 and had an overall budget allocation of £7.4 million – chicken feed in the overall budget – but is (was) a way of helping individuals do their bit to become more self sufficient in terms of energy consumption and possibly put some excess energy production into the National Energry Grid.
Home energy use is about 1/3rd of Scotland’s greenhouse gas emsissions and anything that can be done to reduce this by making use of renewable energy sources has to be welcomed.
This Holyrood Administration is doing the wrong thing by getting rid of this grant. In fact it should be increasing the amount of money available. The ecnomony needs people working and fitting the renewable devices gives employment to firms in this sector. It encourages them and will help them stay in business.
