Currently my local party are undergoing a selection process to decide who our next Westminster candidate should be.
At the hustings on Friday one of the candidates mentioned that she got involved in party politics to "get rid of nuclear weapons". What a naive strumpet!
Several years ago I did an Open University course called "Nuclear Weapons: Inquiry, Analysis & Debate". An interesting course which did make me think. Like this strumpet I also wanted to get rid of nuclear weapons, still do but, I became more realistic about it.
One reason was the awareness that you can’t "dis-invent" technology. Once something has been invented it can be used at any time until it becomes obsolete. However that does not prevent someone bring an obsolete invention back into use at a future date.
So with regard to nuclear weapons, the debate has to be "how do we live in a world where anyone – thanks to the Internet – can make a nuclear bomb?" "How do we control access to the nuclear materials?"
Oh, I still voted for this strumpet anyway.
