Jim Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for South Scotland and Housing Spokesperson, has accused the SNP of abandoning its pre-election promise on socially rented housing.

Mr Hume made the comments following an announcement by the Finance Secretary that he will invest in 650 new affordable houses.

Jim Hume said:

“Whilst an additional 650 affordable houses is welcome, this is still a huge departure from the SNP’s pre-election promise of 6,000 socially rented homes per year. It’s also a drop in the ocean for the 156,000 families on local authority waiting lists.

Affordable housing may be suitable for some, but the Scottish Liberal Democrats want to hear much more noise from the SNP on socially rented housing, a policy which they seem to have abandoned.”
