The UK Government and Scottish Executive have come to agreement over the Scotland Bill.
This is a huge climbdown by the ‘nationalists’ who previously called the Bill a “poison pill”, “a dog’s breakfast” and “dangerous”.
We should be very proud that Mike Moore and Jim Wallace have secured the biggest transfer of powers to Scotland for 300 years.
Commenting on the news that the Scottish Executive have agreed to the Scotland Bill, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:
“The SNP will be red faced after their demands for rushed extra powers crumbled under scrutiny.
“Just months ago they described the Scotland Bill as a poison pill, dog’s breakfast and dangerous. They also insisted on the rushed delivery of Full Fiscal Autonomy and the grandly titled Six Demands. But after all their hot air they have ditched their demands and concerns and now support the Scotland Bill.
“The SNP are either the worst negotiators in the Northern Hemisphere or were embarrassed that their extra power plans crumbled under the slightest examination.
“The Scotland Bill’s package of powers are radical and extensive and now is the time to start debating how they might be used. The power to set a Scottish rate of income tax and control stamp duty, and the potential to create new taxes and to borrow capital for investment will give MSPs the power to make real changes in Scotland, for the people of Scotland.
“The strength of this package comes from the cross-party and expert work that went into it over a long period of time.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats have been a driving force in every extension of new powers to Scotland: the Constitutional Convention, the Calman Commission, and now the Scotland Bill which is being taken through Westminster by Michael Moore, a Liberal Democrat Scottish Secretary.”
