How not to use email

There are a number of people in the local party that just don’t understand how to use email.

The Secretary was recently asked to “write” to the Councillors, by writing that implies a letter, a hard copy send through the postal service. Instead she sent an email. Sorry but if you’re asking our Councillors to respond to a formal request from the local party, you do it by letter, it helps it stand out.

I recently sent an email with some information to our committee mailing list using the list server. I indicated that replies were to come direct to me or someone else. The implication being don’t reply to the list. One person ignored that – like she’s done with other things.

I also recently sent to emails, one to the mailing list server (which has about 12 names on it) the other to a restricted list with only 8 names on it and one of them not a committee member, both on separate subjects. What happens? One person on both lists decides to try and reply to both messages but sends it to the mail list group. A group that includes people who won’t understand half of the message!

No, I haven’t taken this person to task over this, why bother. I will mention at the next LPC that the mailing list is defunct, I’ll switch it off. After all, I “own” it. That might force people to think before they hit reply, then again ….
