How to view this? Is it a good thing or bad? I’ve got mixed feelings about the whole affair I (we’ve) gone through. 
Yes, I was getting fed up over the past year and was looking for a change. What the change was I didn’t know. Being made redundant will force that change.
The only bonus for me is that I get the company pension – hence where the retirement comes in. It’s a couple of years early than I hoped for. If I can re-jig my finances properly I might not need paid employment again. I guess that’s where the problems start.
Over the last few years I’ve been getting up at 6 am, having breakfast, travel to work, work, travel home and arrive around 6 pm. That’s 12 hours of the day taken up. Now this no longer exists, what’s the incentive to get up and do anything?
If you forget about the actual content of the job itself there was the social side of things. You speak to regular travellers on the train and bus and converse with people you work with – didn’t matter what it was about – the weather, failure of the train, TV, sport etc. That side of things no longer exists. After 32.5 years that’s where the really big hole is!
