East Lothian Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate Ettie Spencer has a letter in the local paper this week asking the boys to ‘break it up!’ (referring to Alex Salmond and her immediate rival Iain Gray) declaring nonsense has begun.
As she points out, the ‘real people’ want a proper conversation about how the most vulnerable are going to weather the cuts, about health, housing, education and jobs. And with floods and drought around the world, about how we are going to make fundamental changes in how we live to prevent environmental disasters.
She points out how Lib Dems have been in coalition before at Holyrood, on the local council and now at Westminster. Collaboration and comprise underpins this – “something women are good at”, she says. However, there is still something of a ‘boy’s club’ at both Holyrood and Westminster – something that has to change or we face more of the same.
