I posted a link to a local press article last Thursday on Facebook and added my own comments.
Person A then copied these comments into an email to Person B who does not use social networks and apparently stated how “horrified” they were with my comments. Person B then emailed me to concur with these views and asked me to stop making such comments. Now, to be honest there’s a lot more I could have said on this issue especially with certain things that came to light (previously hidden) in the press article but, I have refrained from doing so.
Recently the Scottish Liberal Democrats held a private Member’s Forum. Attendees were requested not to ‘tweet’, blog etc during the meeting. To my knowledge no-one did. If fact, I don’t think anyone has posted anything about that meeting, respecting the privacy. I’ve not used my notes publicly and don’t intend to.
However, I fell no such restriction in commenting on something that is in the public domain, i.e. published in the local press and/or on-line. I have the ‘right’ to to express my opinion. That ‘right’ is protected by Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
I will continue to express my opinions on anything I want to that is in the public domain. These two people will just have to lump it.
