Fracking – our future fossil fuel?

The UK Government has recently released a map showing how much of the UK landscape is eligible for fracking.

I recently read a very good piece on fracking in the December 2013 edition of New Internationalist magazine. I would recommend you read it. It will help inform you on the subject.

Personally, although the “controls” that could be applied in the UK may make this process safer than in the USA, I have questions over the water supply (where will it come from, how many vehicle movements). I also question the need to use yet more fossil fuels. Instead of growing our economy we should be developing our economy in such a way that we keep existing fossil fuels in the ground. We need to develop renewable technologies further. Instead of duelling the A9 north of Perth we should be duelling the rail line and electrifying it.
